Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon 2020

An annual release of a Texas King-like Uber-Bourbon bottled hot, that sells out even hotter.

We love all the hard-toiled, passionate, craft distillers of the world. But the Garrison Brothers stand out in that crowd. You see, they don’t farm out anything. Every step from cooking the mash to bottling happens right there on site at their distillery in Hye, Texas. They make Bourbon in a range of ages and finishes, but it all started with the famous "barrel #6" that yielded their signature Texas Bourbon Whiskey.

Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon has become an annual limited release that you can’t get all the time. They take the top handful of barrels of their Texas Straight Bourbon made from 100% Panhandle yellow-dent corn and then give it a little extra time in the wood. Then they bottle it up with no filtration, no cutting to proof with water, and no blending needed. It’s like drinking right out of the cask. That’s why Jim Murray of "The Whiskey Bible" called it "American Whiskey of the Year" twice — in 2014 AND 2017.

For 2020 they are releasing just 6,440 bottles in total at a full cask strength of 66.95% ABV (a few points lower than last year but no less impressive). Sure, it goes down hot and tasty neat, but a little ice is a beautiful thing here.

Smartass Corner:
The distillery holds back about 1000 bottles to sell on site. Last year, fans lined up outside the gates on release day starting at 5:00 AM. The local sheriff asked them to open up early to relieve traffic and the bottles were sold out in 58 minutes.
